Whether your marriage ceremony takes place in a Registry Office, an approved premises or a church service, there are legal requirements to be met. These depend where your marriage ceremony is taking place and what previous marriages and/or name changes you have had. It’s worth checking the up-to-date requirements and which documents are required for your particular circumstance.
There are other things you may wish to consider and here are some of the things you may like to ask.

Firstly – do they allow confetti? Some places are extremely strict about whether you can or can’t use it (others are OK provided it is bio-degradable) - you certainly won’t want your big day being overshadowed by an irate minister! Make sure to let your guests know if confetti is banned.
If you want music during the wedding ceremony, enquire what is available, don’t just assume it comes automatically. If you want an organist or choir you will need to find out how to book them.
If you are having recorded music you need to enquire what format is used. It’s no good turning up with CDs if they still use cassette players! Decide who will be responsible for operating the music and give them a clear list of what you want played and when.
With regard to the use of videos and cameras – you will need to check whether there are any restrictions and make sure your guests know too.
If you want the venue to be decorated with flowers ask what will be provided (if any) and, if necessary, find out if it’s ok for you to make your own arrangements and arrange a convenient time for the florist to visit the venue.
There will be fees to be paid – find out how much and when they need to be paid by.
You may decide you would like to have a bible reading or poem recital during the service. Not everyone finds it easy to get up in front of an audience, so choose someone who is comfortable with the idea.
Choosing hymns can be difficult. There is nothing worse than no-one singing at a wedding. Ask to borrow a hymn book to take home and then see which seems to be the best liked and most well known tunes.
A final note – mobile phones. I went to a wedding recently and someone’s mobile phone went off just as the bride and groom were exchanging their vows, so put someone in charge of reminding guests to switch off their mobile phones.
